Forgiving does not make you weak; it sets you free. First, forgiving others allows you to overcome your anger. If you hold a situation against someone, you begin to also hold a grudge. This is also known as bitterness. Bitterness builds up over time and eventually, you become a negative form of yourself.

Anger is not something you should hold in. Secondly, forgiving allows you to heal spiritual wounds. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Healing spiritual wounds will allow you to grow closer to Jesus and your family in Christ. With spiritual wounds, you will never be fully whole.

Last, forgiving simply sets you free. Forgiving others will allow weight to come off your shoulders. When you do not forgive, a bad feeling exists inside of you. It makes you feel hatred. One element of life is loving everyone, you cannot do this until you forgive. You have to be a blessing. With bitterness in your thoughts and mind, you cannot do this. Overall, you will have to forgive people every day.

Psychologists generally define forgiveness as a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group who has harmed you, regardless of whether they actually deserve your forgiveness. Forgiveness does not mean forgetting, nor does it mean condoning or excusing offenses.

In other words, to forgive someone is to acknowledge that a wrong has been committed, but you do not hold that against a person. In light of these points, here are some characteristics of grace and forgiveness: patience, kindness, mercy, and most of love. True Love forgives at all time. When you truly love someone, you will always forgive them whenever they hurt your feelings. When you are in a truly loving relationship, you will get angry when your partner offends you, but you will never have grudges against them.

You may never understand why someone did something. But forgiveness requires you to look at your anger and pain and choose to let it go. This will usually involve developing some understanding of the other person and their circumstances.

You can still forgive someone even if reconciling is not in your best interest. Forgiveness without forgetting means you let go of your emotions of anger and bitterness, yet you remember that your friend was untrustworthy. You may or may not decide to reconcile with that person.

However, even though he preaches boundless forgiveness, he does not indicate whether that forgiveness has conditions. What do forgiveness and forgetting really mean?

Just because you forgive someone does not mean you are condoning their actions nor does it mean you think that person had the right to hurt you.

Despite your forgiveness there are still consequences your offender must face but forgiving them releases you from the pain. The negative consequences of not forgiving has been documented in studies that show that it can lead to emotional pain of anger, hate, hurt, resentment, bitterness and so on and as a consequence can create health issues, affect relationships and stop us from experiencing the freedom that forgiveness enables. When we forgive someone we are being obedient to the word of God.

It is important that we obey the commands of the Lord. Being obedient shows that we love and trust the Lord that what His word says is for our own good.
